Darby Winery - An Elegantly Comfortable Newcomer

Darby Winery 19501 144th Ave NE #E-700 Woodinville, WA 98072 www.darbywinery.com

These days there seems to be a new winery opening up shop in Woodinville’s industrial wine park almost every week. As they continue to pile on top of one another it becomes increasingly more difficult to distinguish one from the other. But there is at least one new winery that’s doing a nice job standing out from the rest – Darby Winery.
With his very popular first release behind him now, consisting of a Syrah and the white blend “Le Deuce”, winemaker and owner Darby English has managed to quickly distinguish himself as one of Woodinville’s premier producers. His palate friendly wines are amazingly well structured and elegant for such a new winery. And as far as I can tell there’s nothing but good things to come with the additional wine offerings and varietals on the way.
Besides a proficiency with making sophisticated crowd pleasing wines Darby also manages to provide an atmosphere to match in his small section of the wareho ... View Full Post >>

A juicy and refreshing Rose with aromas of sweet strawberries, watermelon, and Big League Chew. The mouth feel is smooth but not cloying. Flavors include fresh ripe strawberries, watermelon, subtle herbs, and just a hint of green pepper for personality. A fantastic summer wine for backyard barbeques and soaking in your kid's mini pool.

Compass Wines - One of the Best Wine Retailers in WA

One of the best wine stores in the state isn’t located in Seattle, Spokane, or Walla Walla. Nope it’s in the bustling north coast city of Anacortes. Here local industry icon Doug Charles operates one of the most respected wine shops for Washington and Northwest wines.
Recently I stopped in on my way back from San Juan Island. I had heard so much about the shop but never had the chance to make it up. Boy was I missing out! Being a huge fan of Washington wines I was amazed by the selection, including some of the most sought after wines in the state from renowned producers as Leonetti and Quilceda Creek…1990 Quilceda Creek anyone?
There are also plenty of offerings from small and literally unknown producers that you may have never heard of but should definitely get to know. Laura, who was working that day, was more than helpful in pointing some of these rare finds out. After taking me for a tour of the store, covering all of the major wine s ... View Full Post >>

Island Wine Co - Everything for a Great Island Getaway

Island Wine Company 2 Cannery Landing Friday Harbor, WA 98250 360-378-3229 www.sanjuancellars.com

In Friday Harbor on San Juan Island there’s a great little wine shop with everything you need for a weekend away or a great gift to bring home. Just off the ferry turn an immediate left and you’ll find Island Wine Company. It’s not a large store, with shelves overflowing with wine, but there are definitely plenty of things to grab your attention and wet your palate.
First, there are a multitude of wine accessories for the faithful traveler. Get a new corkscrew to share that special bottle on the beach or a novelty napkin set to bring home as a gift. Second, but most importantly is of course the wine. The selection isn’t extensive but the quality to quantity ratio is definitely over the top. Island Wine Co. offers a fine selection from some of the most sought after producers in Washington and the Northwest, including Owen Roe, Quilceda Creek, Woodward Canyon and Domaine Serene.
Island Wine Company is also home to San Juan Cellars, wi ... View Full Post >>

DiStefano Winery - Offering a Premium Food & Wine Experience

Named Washington Winery of the Year recently by Wine Press Northwest, DiStefano is a must visit for any wine and food enthusiast. Besides being one of the state’s well-respected premium wineries, DiStefano is a huge proponent of the food and wine experience. This is obvious if you’ve ever attended one of their popular wine release events, where along with elegant food friendly wines they offer a great spread of expertly paired foods.
Recently I attended the summer release event of their new 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, the 2007 Viognier and 2004 Domenica. They were also offering tastes of a real nice Grenache and Syrah. I’m a big fan of Grenache, which in my opinion is one of the most food friendly wines, so it’s always nice to see one being offered as a straight varietal.
Along with the wines there were also several delicious food items prepared by Executive Chef George Stevenson, w ... View Full Post >>

A nice Cab from the Horse Heaven Hills. Aromas of blueberry, plum, blackberry, and a touch of oak lead into a spicy array of green pepper, pencil lead (a metallic dusty flavor), tobacco and predominately blackberry flavors. This is a big wine with class, bold yet refined. A nice steak wine.

I had this wine today at the Purple Cafe in Kirkland with my blackened Salmon sandwich. It offered nice cherry and berry fruit flavors with spicy cinnamon notes. The acidity was crisp and lively which went really nice with the food. I'll definitely have to try this wine again soon.

The color of this wine is brilliant, with a deep vibrant ruby red hue. Aromas of bright red fruit, including cranberry and strawberry, carry over onto the pallet with some additional bready or nutty components. The acidity is solid but overall I think this wine is lacking in complexity. It's a little one dimensional but overall a good average Grenache

Wailea Wine offers a great selection of premium wines for the beach bound traveler. If you have your own condo or house and are looking to cook up a nice meal on the lanai, or just want a nice bottle of wine to watch the sunset this is your place. The selection is mostly domestic with a high concentration of California producers but there are also several premium offerings from France, Italy, Australia, and more.
If you’re in the mood for snacks or other fine foods then Wailea Wine can help you out there as well. They offer a great selection of foods ranging from cheese and chocolates all the way to shrimp, scallops, and wild salmon. Or, if you would prefer something other than wine they also have beer, spirits, and plenty of cold non-alcohol beverages.
A great little shop located in Wailea just up the road from Maui’s premium resort hotels and condos. It’s never really that busy so if you need assistance picking out your selection the pr ... View Full Post >>
